How This Course Is Delivered
This course is structured across three stages. Moving through each stage you are supported with weekly Zoom sessions and ongoing logbook monitoring and feedback.

What You Will Learn
This unit covers all performance criteria, knowledge and skills required to perform Electrolysis safely, effectively and legally — face and body, all hair colours, all skin types.
- State and territory health, hygiene and skin penetration regulations
- Hair structure, the growth cycle and its relationship to permanent reduction
- Hair types, follicle characteristics and all factors affecting hair growth
- Client consultation, medical history review and treatment planning
- Identifying and managing contraindications — when to treat, restrict or refer
- Galvanic, thermolysis and blend modalities — how each works and when to use each
- Electrical current physics — direct current, alternating current and the electrolytic process
- Probe selection, sizing and accurate insertion technique
- Patch test procedure and skin reaction assessment
- Infection control, sterilisation and sharps disposal to clinical standard
- Post-treatment care, aftercare and client rebooking
- Treatment documentation and professional record keeping
Prerequisites
To enrol in SHBBHRS013 you must also hold:
- SHBBINF002 — Maintain Infection Control Standards (included in all Dermaskin streams if not already held)
New to industry students additionally require:
- SHBBSSC001 — Incorporate Knowledge of Skin Structure and Functions into Beauty Therapy
- SHBBSSC002 — Incorporate Knowledge of Body Structures and Functions into Beauty Therapy

Electrolysis Skills Refresh — One Day Intensive For existing Electrologists and Beauty Therapists who want to sharpen their technique, revisit theory, or build confidence with a new modality — without committing to full accreditation. Maximum 6 participants.
This one-day intensive is designed for practitioners who already have exposure to Electrolysis and want to upskill, refresh or refine. Please note that this is not an accredited qualification — but a certificate of completion and attendance is provided.
What the day covers
- Theory review — hair growth cycles, modality selection, skin reactions
- Hands-on practical technique — insertion, current settings, probe selection
- Working with difficult hair types and follicle depths
- Client consultation and contraindication management
- Infection control refresher to current NSW Health standards
